I'm not sure if Jenny has matured or not over the last three years - but I can say that the quality of the lessons gets better and better! Congratulations on your 1000th podcast. I hope you had a fabulous party, you deserve it.

Hi guys,
The party was FUN!! Our sound engineer David Xu filmed parts of it (when we were sober). Hopefully, we will post it on the site.
Thanks again for making the celebration possible!

In the expansion section, can you please please please make the Chinese characters in the sentences bigger and bolder? I struggle to see and effectively learn them.
Thanks.

1000 lessons is mind boggling. I can't even comprehend listening to that many lessons, let alone producing them.
Well deserved celebration guys. I'll organise something similar when I finally study my 1000th lesson.

Dear poddies,
Thanks for all your support through the years. The party was a laugh and a half. Singing, dancing and debauchery.

Can someone show me the first ever lesson of Chinesepod?

This is the first one I can find:
http://chinesepod.com/lessons/intro-1-good-morning
I'm not sure if it is the first first.. but it is marked with the filename of A0001.
john says
October 12, 2008
A0001 is not the first ever lesson chronologically. The first ever lesson is buried in the vault somewhere. You can be sure that some of the vetern poddies (e.g. Bazza) have it, though.
It was definitely a fun party! My dog even made a guest appearance toward the end... hehe

The video last week realy shows how Jenny has come up as a podcaster!!
Happy 1000 to all at CP may there be many more
Ken and all should be very proud of his product!!

The first show was "Basic Greetings" (published on the 5th of September 2005). It was 13:39 min in length.
Ken says at 00:20:
Then comes an introduction to the level system with the message that after 20-30 Newbies lessons you can move to Elementary.
Jenny is introduced at about 02:00 with her English and Chinese name.
Here is the dialogue - directly copied from the old PDF (!) as downloaded on the 10th of April 2006. It is read 3 times by Jenny and Ken.
After the breakdown of the dialogue sentence by sentence some basic and supplementary vocab is presented: 我,你,他,我们,你们,他们, 是, 是的, 很好,谢谢
Towards the end, Ken promises us:
:)

Hi John,
Kate the intern says she's working on a project to improve the site. I think if there was anything that cpod could do to get the dozens of suggestions that we users have made, then publicizing Kate's work in the next news and features podcast, and asking that we make our suggestions there as well as on these boards might be a good start in giving us cpod subscribers the transparency we seek in lesson suggestion and incorporation. Thanks.

I love the new jingle, but its a little too catchy. Its been playing in my head all day & I keep finding myself singing it while walking around the office today.
Congrats on the 1,000th lesson!

I have found a much older lesson than the ones stated above. This lesson was published on January 1st 1970:

john,
I am a little confused about the origins of CPod and would love to know. The news and features "Welcome to Chinese Pod" lists that it was first published on May 19,2005 and has that you were one of the hosts.I believe that you have been involved with CPod for a long time now ,but that you were not there at the start. So am I right in guessing that the original "Welcome to Chinese Pod" was published on May 19,2005 but that the current version was recorded at a later date [being the date which you joined...which was when?].
Now henning lists the date of the first lesson as 5th September 2005.Was there really such a gap between the welcome and the first lesson? I know some of the old lessons were deleted [and thus the missing numbers].Were some also re-recorded? If so,which is the first lesson currently available that wasn't re-recorded.I know none of this is particularly important to the overall objective here, but it would be interesting to get some insight into the journey.Just wish I'd discovered the programme at the start.

bbbdwan,
I believe the may 19th date stamp is an error. I assure you Henning has it right and if you notice the comments on the welcome N&F start in Dec 2007. N&F is a relatively new addition to cpod. John will have to tell you when he started, but I think not long after the beginning.

RJ,
Thanks.I thought Henning was right [btw thanks henning for filling in newcomers ] as for some reason I had a notion that CPod had been going for 3yrs in September.I must have read/heard that somewhere.I was just looking for an explanation and probably phrased it funny.I have noticed with all the comments sections that they start around that time and was led to believe/came to the conclusion that previous comments were left out when new versions of CPod came out.Now that you mention it ,I had also noticed previously that N+F mustn't have been going since the start as the number isn't up around 160 which it would be if it had been weekly from the start. But the date stamps have confused me ,as has the welcome message. Thanks again for helping set me straight.

hi guys,
The News and Features podcast was a later addition to ChinesePod. The one you see that is dated May 19, 2005 was backdated since it was meant to be a 'welcome' podcast for new users. The first one was really the one on June 19, 2007. Sorry for the confusion! :D

That January 1'st 1970 date corresponds to the beginning of the time epoch that most computers use. They keep track of time by using the number of seconds since January 1'st 1970. I imagine the timestamp for that podcast somehow got lost or reset to zero and you're seeing the results.
