Yes, in America we do play jokes and pranks on other people on the first of April. We call this day "April Fools".
Thanks for your podcasts. Garrison Keillor mentioned in "The Writer's Almanac" on April 1st one theory states that All Fool's Day dates back to the mid 16th Century. It started in France after Europe adopted the Gregorian calendar moving New Year's Day from April 1st to January 1st. News traveled slowly and the people who still celebrated New Year's on April 1st came to be know as "April Fools". It took years for everyone to get up to speed.
